Historical review

The Facultad Politécnica of the Universidad Nacional del Este (FPUNE), operates in a complex and challenging socioeconomic context, in which its institutional staff redoubles efforts to offer valid alternatives that avoid the cultural uprooting of young people, take advantage of its strategic location in the Triple Border to strengthen its academic offering and influence formation in values, national identity and professional competence; amid a multicultural surrounding population with strong roots of professionals and employees from neighboring countries.

The beginning of what would become the Universidad Nacional del Este dates back to December 12, 1991, through an agreement signed between the Universidad Nacional de Asunción and Itaipu Binacional, thus initiating the activities of the UNA branch at the E.M.D. Professor Atanasio Riera National School in Area 1.

Subsequently, on October 22, 1993, the then President of the Republic of Paraguay, Eng. Juan Carlos Wasmosy, signed Law 250/93, which officially created the Universidad Nacional del Este, and consequently, the academic units such as the Facultad Politécnica, among others, by means of Resolution No. 01/95 of the Consejo Superior Universitario (Superior University Council).

The first Decano (Dean) of the Facultad Politécnica of the Universidad Nacional del Este was Licenciado (Licentiate) Daniel Brítez and the first Vicedecano (Vice Dean) was Licenciado Víctor Alfredo Brítez.

Since year 1993, the FPUNE has offered university education services in technical areas with quality management that aims at academic excellence. FPUNE’s first career was Licenciatura en Análisis de Sistemas (Licentiateship in Systems Analysis)

In year 1995 the Ingeniería Eléctrica (Electrical Engineering) career was created, and starting in year 1996, the first professionals graduated from the Análisis de Sistemas career.

From year 1996 to year 2000, FPUNE also carried out its activities at the Sagrada Familia school, in Area 3; that same year, the Licenciatura en Turismo (Licentiateship in Tourism) career was created.

In March 1997, the foundation stone of the FPUNE was laid on the University Campus and work began on what would later be the the faculty’s headquarters. In 1999, the FPUNE moved to km 3.5 where classes were held. As its operation matured, FPUNE diversified its academic offering, thus in year 2001 it opened the Ingeniería de Sistemas (Systems Engineering) career.

After several years of hard work, since year 2005 the Facultad Politécnica managed to settle on the University Campus, being able to offer better conditions to students, teachers and employees to carry out their activities.

The FPUNE took on the challenge of joining the development of technological advances in response to the new demands of the environment.

In this context, in year 2004 it launched the first program in Maestría en Ingeniería Eléctrica (Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering) in Paraguay. This program resulted in the qualification and incorporation into the labor market of the first Magister en Ingeniería Eléctrica (Master in Electrical Engineering) in Paraguay.

In July 2006, the FPUNE launched the first edition of the Master’s Degree in Informatics and Computing.

Following the policy of increasing the development of knowledge areas at the Universidad Nacional del Este, in June 2009 the FPUNE enabled the specialization program Especialización en Desarrollo de Sistemas para Ambiente Internet con Tecnología Orientada a Objetos (Specialization in Systems Development for Internet Environment with Object Oriented Technology).

In March 2017, the FPUNE launched the first edition of the specialization program Especialización en Dirección y Alta Gerencia Hotelera (Specialization in Senior Hotel Management).

As of year 2018, the Facultad Politécnica has three careers accredited by ANEAES: Ingeniería Eléctrica, Análisis de Sistemas and Ingeniería de Sistemas (Electrical Engineering, Systems Analysis and Systems Engineering). Regarding administrative management, work continues on the improvement and modernization of management, framed by an internal control environment based on the definition of risk and operational efficiency, advancing in the application of principles of the Modelo Estándar de Control Interno para Entidades Públicas (Standard Internal Control Model for Public Entities) - MECIP, and through self-management for the procurement of extra-budgetary resources in face of the insufficiency of those provided by the State.

Within quality management, the Facultad Politécnica implements some strategies, aiming at continuous improvement, for this purpose, it closes cooperation links through agreements with other institutions and companies, both public and private.

The Facultad Politécnica of the Universidad Nacional del Este has several activities within the framework of university extension and research. Some of these activities are: Curso de Electricidad Básica y Alfabetización Digital (Basic Electricity Course and Digital Literacy), in addition, monthly and annual publications such as the scientific magazine FPUNE Scientific.
